Afternoon all. Recent purchase of a 2000 MGF, without full inspection due to covid, has paid off. MOT failure was emissions and a stuck handbrake cable. So not much to do. Searching for a cat is giving me a headache. It's pre 2001 but wish to fit an approved type. Keeps coming up in notes that the cat will only fit non OBD. Thought they all had OBD or am I missing something. Looking at EEC RV8010T and BM90440H. Grateful for any advice.

Two types of cat. One pre mems3, one post mems3. Later setup has two lambda sensors. Pre and post cat. Also the later cat has a 90degree bend after the cat.
So get whichever type is already fitted.
Pre mems3 cat

Post mems3 cat

Thanks for that David. I now understand the notes on cats and have ordered the correct one.

Interestingly a specialist garage replaced the cat on my MEMS2.0 car with one of similar size but it had a boss for a sensor so they fitted a dead sensor and cut the top off.

Apparently you do get them with sensors hence my reluctance to order before fully understanding. In your case they possibly had wrong part and was easier to do what they did rather than change or wait for the correct part. Would work just the same.

Don't be confused here, guys!

James is saying that they fitted a SIMILAR cat that had a sensor port to his mk1 car, not fitted a later mgf/tf cat.

In the original exhaust layout, the back box has a I80 degree bend to mate to the straight cat.
In the later layout the cat has a 90 degree bend with a sensor port in it. The back box has a 90 degree bend too.

You can buy an adapter, a 90degree bend with a sensor port in it, from mike satur that converts a mk1 cat to fit a mk2 exhaust back box.
This is what I have, because at the time I could get an original straight cat and buy the adapter cheaper than buy a mk2 cat!

Apologies for the confusion. I should have been clearer I was talking about the straight cat for the earlier model which comes with and without Lambda sensor hole
