How does the water enter the sills?

The other day our MG was parked outside in the rain. After entering the carport I saw lots of water dropping out of the sills.
How can this happen? Is there a specially designed connection leading the water down to the sills to create corrosion?

Usually gets in via the sill ends in the front wheel arch or even the rear arch.
