Why is this steel tube unpainted? was created by EllisoJo

When I did a thorough clean of the TF I just purchased, I was surprised to find a very rusty tube which connects the two sliding rails under the driver's seat.  Is there any reason why this is not painted?  I have rubbed-down, treated with a Phosphoric-acid rust killer and paited the drivers side, but this photo shows the rail on the passenger seat, which only has slight rust.

Hi and welcome to the forum

Sorry, I have no idea why it wasn't painted.

Mine has slight rust on the underside on both driver and passenger seats (carpet side). I asked myself the same question two weeks ago!
