Having eliminated this as both a clutch fluid and gearbox oil leak what can start leaking towards the back/left of the engine? Last year I had a leak to the front/right which was the camshaft seals. Can't think what can go at the other end? It's dripping from the gear change area and getting spun round the left drive shaft....

I am fairly certain that I will not be able to add much to this conversation but can you please clarify which engine we are referring to?

If its a VVC then it could be the rear camshaft seals

Are you absolutely 100% totally positively sure that it isn't gearbox fluid?

2004 TF 135. Looks too dark for gearbox oil and doesn't have that 'mineral' smell. Both gearbox drive shaft seals are oil free (replaced 2022). Thanks for the replies. I'll have another climb under and double check the gearbox though. Where else can it leak from?

Of course one would think the gearbox actually has gear oil in it sometimes they end up with whatever is laying about tipped in, it's not uncommon to find engine oil has been used. And sometimes if the gear change isn't the, best automatic transmission fluid is used to try and make the gear change a bit easier, in fact it is quite common to do this in the old LT77 5 speed in the Triumph TR7.
I know it can be bloody difficult to see anything much in the engine bay let alone reach it but can you feel above where you see it to try and trace where it's coming from? I s'pose pics are out of the question?
if it's not a serious leak then perhaps you can just put up with it until you need to do unrelated work that will allow better access to that area, just keep a good eye on fluid levels until then.
