I'm the owner of a 1998 Mgf, Non VVC, BRG, black top, 91,000 km's, first registered in 2000, for the past 4 years, and have visited this site once to twice a week just to keep up to play with the world of the MGF. A couple photo's attached.
A bit of background, i live in the bottom of NZ in Central Otago, and the summers are generally great to put the roof down and go for a bit of a run. However, work keeps me from doing this too often, especially as we work weekends.
The car was a bit of a mess when i got it
A, heater pipes were rusted out, so no heater - since fixed
B. Fan didn't work on one or two, - fixed
C. Head gasket blew, - Fixed
D. Dent in floor plan, with a bit of surface rust - Fixed
E. New front rotors
F. new front wheel bearings
G  And lots of other small bits and pieces.
F. Suspension was already converted when i purchased the "F"
Not being a mechanic, you can imagine the cost to have repairs done, but what a great little machine. Did 800km in November last year to attend a Motorama in Te Anau, and did a scenic loop on the way home, and it run like a dream. Local petrol heads don't rate it, but they are not driving it. Big classic car/hot rod/petrol head culture in this part of the world.
Last thing to do is the low coolant alarm, and i jumped on ebay to buy one of BruceTF135's, after all the comments on the posts, but ebay is telling me " no post to NZ"
Can you help me out Bruce. I'm actually and Australian, married to a kiwi girl, and we are heading back to Aus in the near future, year or so, and as Cobber and the other Aussie's comment on, with the heat there, the alarm is a must.

I absolutely know Bruce will oblige.
He is a gentleman and his kit is stellar. The instructions are superb.
His only shortcoming is that he was the bass player in his band but still, someone has to do it..😁😁
Edit: nice looking car!

Yes, no problem.  I've sent a few to New Zealand in the past, via eBay and directly through The-T-Bar.

Send me a private message and I can sort it out.  It will definitely work out less than via eBay.

I'm still the bass player in Band 47 and was also the bass player with the T-Boys back in the day.  Music from both bands on Spotify etc or free from YouTube

Hi and welcome to the forum.

That is the best model (we own 2 x mk1 VVC and 1 x 1.8i) and the best colour (1 VVC is HAM and the other is HFF).

Back to Brisbane, QLD boy from way back. Been jumping across the Tasman more times than i can count, and last move over here was so My wife could be closer to her mother who is 98 this year. Kids and Grandies are in Brisbane, so we will head back there, naturally taking the "f" with us. One question though, Australia are particularly concerned with Asbestos in cars. Now I'm presuming there is none in the MGF. More so the clutch. Never had it out, and all brake pads are new, so none there according to Rimmers, who only sell "green" pads, so i'm told.

I would think that even if the car originally had asbestos in the clutch and brakes, they would've been replaced by now, and I doubt that the replacement items would contain asbestos. How you would go about proving it to the Australian Border Force authorities satisfaction would be your problem. I do know that they have gotten a serious hard on over asbestos in the last few years.
I've never Imported a car so I really can't say.

A few years ago the as a case of a bloke who wanted to temporarily bring in a totally original rare classic 60's Maserati for a show, event,  they demanded that he was going to have to disassemble the engine to prove that there had been no asbestos gaskets used, he was even prepared to not drive the car and not do any repairs while it was here so there would be no chance of anyone being exposed to asbestos, and they still weren't having it, so the car never came.

I get that asbestos is seriously nasty stuff, but considering the amount of it that was mined here and is allowed to blow about from those old abandoned mines as well as the huge amounts that was used and still found in homes and factories around the country, that the government aren't prepared to do much about, it was a bit heavy handed!
If suspected asbestos is encountered when working on the older structures and machines, then you have to inform the authorities and engage licensed hazardous materials company to remove it, they send a bloke around wearing a sperm suit, he stuffs it into a plastic bag and takes it away to be tossed into land fill somewhere.

The shipping agent should be able to explain what is required, there are many that specialise in cars.
It would be no problem chucking a set of new pads in before the car comes, the clutch might be a little more involved.
Some documentation such as receipts with part numbers  and brands clearly listed and cross reference back to the parts manufacturer might help.

Thanks mate. I know the asbestos thing in Aus is huge, and once found somewhere the removal blokes in their sperm suites with their asbestos sniffers and the dump sites make an absolute fortune. We dealt with some buried asbestos in a yard a few years ago in QLD, and the cost was horrendous.
Best i start to make a few enquiries and dont leave it until the week before we put it on a boat.
I know the brake Pads are ok, but as you say, references might very well be needed.
