Configuring antivirus with pscan
We do attempt to prevent pscan from triggering antivirus engines but this isn't always easy. There are so many antivirus companies around and many of them are very difficult to communicate with to register a false positive.
Many antivirus engines now will treat anything that they are not familiar with as begin potentially malicious, this is because there are now so many viruses, and sometimes one off specially crafted files aimed at just one individual or company that it is actually easier to create signatures for the common software that people use that attempt to recognise all of the bad stuff.
Unfortunately pscan is not commonly used, and because the software automatically updates, so when there is a new update it downloads a new exe and launches it pscan can even look look like a virus; however we can assure you that it isn't, provided that you download it from us and it isn't tampered with.
These are our recommendations:-
1. Only download pscanloader.exe from our official website at http://pscan.uk/install/
2. Check that it hasn't been tampered with. At the time of writing the SHA256 hash of pscanloader.exe is 48182c4cb447433d01aa8ad4c9f083fab4631e888df54c8c61a8f37ba3910b88
You can check the SHA256 hash of pscanloader.exe yourself using virustotal.com
For example see https://www.virustotal.com/#/url/b6aab590e6589514464179775c716a5f22feaac91f3b13f6bfa37c35959b327a/detection
3. We recommend that you put pscanloader.exe into its own special folder ( such as c:/pscan.uk )
We recommend that you configure your antivirus program to then ignore that entire folder. This is normally known as an "exception rule" or a "whitelist".
