yes, use finder to find pscanloader
control-click it

when you connect the usb cable from the pscan interface to your Mac it should self populate
if it's already plugged in then try and unplug it and plug it in again.

Once you have that you need to plug the pscan into your car, you can't get any further without being connected to a car

well it looks like Ive got as fas as i can until I plug it into the car. Thanks for your help.

If you click on "next" without a car you get "interface fail :01" or something like that.

What is the normal way to launch the app? 
ie from scratch when the laptop has just been started? from XQuartz or where would you say?

Xquartz has it's own application launch menu. I recommend using that.

Follow the instructions at step 4 here  https://pscan.uk/install/macosx.html  to set it up.
