Hi All,

Recently purchased a MGF 1.8i MK2 for the wife, for the princely sum of £300, it was an MOT Failure so set about putting it right.
In doing so I changed the main brake line, front to rear, and from the T piece to the O/S Rear wheel and thought whilst I'm here I'll do from the T to the N/S wheel.
The brake line from the T to the N/S wheel runs above the Air box, and wasn't picked up by the MOT tester as being an issue, as he couldn't see it.
When I removed it, the line snapped in half! Kind of sent the chills down my back.
So thought I'd let you know, might be worth a gander.
I Will try and get some photos up here.
All the best
Stu

Wel done for rescuing an MG.
Well done for pointing out the probs you've found.

But..... For 300 quid the car is going to be a proper snotter with lots of obvious and also hidden probs.

Definitely not a criticism for what you are doing, just the opposite, but keep your expectations low.
And keep being vigilant.
Good luck.

Cue Angry Mob who've bought 300 quid MG's that are 'immaculate'
They're not. :yesnod:

It will be all right in the end. If it isn't all right yet, then it is not yet the end..

I think you've misunderstood the point here.
I wasn't expecting gold or copper and wasn't expecting a new car! The point of the post is to highlight the fact that the N/S rear brake line isn't easily visible, irrespective of how much the car has cost.
So was saying it could be worth checking out.
I knew what I was buying, and wasn't moaning about it at all.

Don't worry. I got the point. :broon:

Just don't come round here looking for any more arguments. :bust:

A couple of pics of the offending perished pipe location would be handy for others to check their own. :yesnod:

The brake line from the t to my near side rear brake failed when I was approaching a roundabout.
It just burst.
Not as frightening an experience as I expected.
Still wouldn't recommend it though. :nonod:

Just to confirm I don't fix things with clingfilm... But might be an option and my brakes are working spot on, had to do a sharp stop yesterday as some tool on the roundabout decided to cut across my lane. The 4 pot callipers kicked in spot on and stopped in no time at all.
