I replaced the dumb original rod ends with rose joints (I like rose joint) & whilst I was in there I gave the motor a once over, including drilling a drain hole at the lowest point. I can confirm that the gizzards can get grim; if you find that you have to change it, ensure you get the appropriate one or if you buy the Freelander variant, which apparently is less expensive, check out the modifications you will be required to undertake before it works correctly.
