No, it only works on the top; square edge to square edge. Even if it would open wide enough to go onto the bottom link, the motion of the round area it would sit on would ping it off...

Looks like the clips work fine if it is the top part of the link/bush that has failed, but not when, as in my case,

   it is the bottom half?

If these engines were used in other vehicles did those other vehicles have the similar head gasket failure propensity?
A Google on this suggests there were other factors such as who produced the cylinder liners and possibly who built the engine. Lotus is mentioned but did they just take the engine for their purposes or did they modify it with regards to head gasket etc?
Anyone have “history” on this, and if so what is now the accepted wisdom should a new gasket be required?

Lotus partially stripped the engines including fitting an upgraded head gasket. HGF is not unknown on the Elise though either. I visited the Lotus factory in 2000 and they had a warehouse full of K Series engines stacked 10 high, quite a sight.

I have a repair clip that you could have for postage costs or free to pick up if you want it.

Thanks, but I ordered a pair of eBay via the link. £2.03 with a discount code, so very reasonable.

The left wiper is working as normal. I'm presuming that there is a linkage that has broken or become disconnected between the wipers? Is the linkage accessed by removing the wiper arms and the black plastic panel under them on the scuttle? The broken wiper stopped in the deployed position but can be manually moved back to it's park. 2004 TF.

Could the seat for the seals in the housing be damaged? Happened with my gearbox oils seal.

Could also be the alternator? They can squeal when under load. It stops once the current demand has dropped.

My previous post on this subject was lost in the revamp, but I'd come to agree with other posters that it had to be the gearbox. The theory was reenforced by my last crawl under the car seeing what appeared to be a tiny weep from the bottom of the nearside seal.

With an 800+ mile round trip to Scotland starting today I was back under the car last night with the idea of pumping the spare half litre of gearbox oil that I had into the box. However on removing the filler bolt there was an immediate steady stream of oil running out, indicating that the box was healthily full.....

So, 3 months and 500+ miles of regular 50p size oil stains doesn't amount to as much as I'd feared if it is the box. The car is off to Retro Sportscars later in July for it's new rear suspension arm, so perhaps they will find/solve the leak.
