My TF160 (and the demise of my Metro)

Another update... although not really much progress, but I've collected lots more parts!

BMC CDA is now fitted.
Since replacing the cylinder head I've had idle/rev limit problems - I suspect it's down to the cam phase sensor and I've a feeling the reluctor teeth on the camshaft are damaged (from taking a head bolt out past it in a hurry)
I've moved house and the weather has been bad so I've not done much (other than run diagnositics and swap the sensor twice)

Air Con kit/fitting is coming along. I've fitted the Evaporator to under the dash. It's got to come out again to replace the steering column blank as they old the drain and an extra mounting point. I'll hopefully do a how-to including a shopping list to help anyone else who wants to retrofit air con.
One of the aircon pipes was in the way of my LPG tank so I've had a specialist aluminium welder shorten it to take it out of the way of the tank.
Most importantly I've fitted the aircon brackets etc to my Scholar on the engine stand to test the fitment of a Janspeed 4-2-1 manifold and it all looks good.

Inside the car I've swapped to full leather seats and added a driver side lumbar control Corbeau inflatable one) and added an ipod adapter to my headunit and fitted steering wheel controls.

New parts I've collected are:
85th Front ARB.. just need the rear to go with it :D
New BAS Sportster hood with glass rear screen
Spare mk2 roof to fit the above to.

Are those 'steel caged bearings' on your Quaife?

If so where did you buy them from and what are the benefits of using those?

They're not the conventional steel cage bearings most people use - they're 30208 roller taper bearings which are much stronger (around twice and axial and radial loading of standard bearings)

Disadvantage is they need pre-loading to the correct rolling torque which isn't a straight forward task as the races need ground on a surface grinder to fit.

Sounds way beyond my capabilities.. So I guess I'll rebuild my box with steel caged bearing kit and fit my 'type A' with plastic caged as no one does steel ones anymore..

Most bearing places should be able to source the steel cages ones (although they may be lazy about it) It's difficult to source them on-line without being sent plastic caged ones.

Berger (on Rovertech) has always been helpful for sourcing the other PG1 bearings, so might be worth dropping him a PM.

Lots more info here - The T-Series boys eat gearbox bearings for breakfast on account of all the torque they have so there's a wealth of information there:

http://www.rovertech.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=17020

Load ratings in lbs for bearings
6208 dynamic 5000 static 3450
m208 dynamic 7200 static 5700
30208 dynamic 11000 static 9000

I've seen a few places that sell 'kits' for the PG1 which has all steel bearing except the 2 on the diff which most places claim are no longer available so use plastic caged

May have to try local bearing place then

More updates. Anyone would think the wife was away!

Re-wired my Emerald harness adapter so the K6 could control the MEMS3 stepper motor (My main reason for changing from a K3 to a K6)

Car starts and runs :)

Now I have to make a new adapter as when I started this one, the engine was in a Metro which only has one cooling fan and no planned air con.
