Standard Air Filter Housing

Does anyone have a standard air filter box to replace the KN one I currently have?

Make sure you fit the later MK2F/TF airbox, :broon: the original F box is pants.

I have an original F one taken of mine when I fitted the K&N Cone..... thanks David... the pants one :lol:

What makes the pants housing pants?

Quick answer is very convoluted tubing and inefficient airflow. I also have a MK1 airbox but the tubing is missing - its pants but you are welcome to it.

Why do you want to dump the k&N? its the best mod i ever fitted.

The filter is cased in a plastic tub covered by some heat resistant material. It has two tubes feeding air into it. I have no idea why unless it's to force more air into it. If that's the case, is the KN good enough on its own?

One thing for sure, the K&N is substantially better than the original Mk1 air filter - so don't revert back to OEM, as that would definately be a huge mistake.

Post some pics of the install and someone can then tell yo if it's all put together correctly, if you are concerned

That's an enclosure to feed cold air through the filter. :yesnod: The two pipes should go to the nearside air intake.

That's correct David. So is there any point having the KN? If you have to cover it up to force air into it, might as well go back to standard, or am I missing something?

You're missing something.

The K and N flows more air than the standard setup.
The disadvantage is that it pulls hot air from the engine bay, because it's open. Hot air is not as good as cold air.
The solution is to direct cold air directly to the K and N via an enclosure and feed pipes from the outside.

So now you get more, colder air into the engine which is a double bonus.


Firms like Pipercross etc produce a complete kit that is an 'Enclosed cold air feed induction system' like the Viper. Basically the K and N 'in a box' replicates these systems but is cheaper.
