There is also the fact that the car just doesnt pull as well as it should, i gave it an italian tune up tonight and the car started missing, i know there may be a link with lack of a recent service (ht leads and spark plugs). I am not familiar with this car having only had it for a week but its performance is mildly uneven, like it has a fault but i don't know precisely what it is. I have downloaded digimoto to try to get to the bottom of it but i only have a vag-com cable which appears to be incompatible, can you point me in the right direction of a compatible lead ?
The car is leading me down the garden path, but thanks for your help.
I am not able to help, I used Saint Russell (MG Rover Solutions) to sort out my Engine Managment problems with his Rover T4 testbook. I replaced the plugs, leads, coil, crank sensor, Lambda, Cat, manifold, front pipe & back box. and found an ECU fault (it was not detecting the crank sensor) replaced the ECU (thanks to Daz at Pocket Motors) Russell reprogrammed it and it now runs like an absolute dream :woohoo: :woohoo: Your VVC has coil packs which can give spark problems, the correct plugs are very important. also the VVC control unit can give problems too. Where are you located? Russell is in Kent, Jon Norris (Rough Luck Racing) is in Rutland and Mike Stafford is on the South Coast but all will travel. Hope this helps.

I have ordered a lead for my laptop so i can read any faults, until then im going to put up with it.
I agree that by changing the plugs and leads can do no harm in the mean time, its quite heartwarming to know there are people out there who show their support, it certainly gives me a bit of renewed motivation to see this problem through.
Thanks again for your offers, i shall keep you updated with progress, and hopefully soon have some good news !
(While i was writing this my wing mirror turned up, thank god for small mercies !!)

I would suspect you may have a failed engine temp sensor, so that the ecu thinks the engine is cold and is running 'on choke' all the time, but until you get the fault codes it is all guessing.

High Idle when influenced by the ECU is around 1200rpm.
Have you tried blocking the pipe which feeds the IACV to see if the car stalls?

Indeed i have when i put my thumb in the pipe it does stall, which would make me think its not a leak.
To my thinking idling at 2k means that i would be looking at a sensor, i have ordered a lead hopefully that can put some light on this, there always seems to be twist and turns, perhaps i have a couple to go yet.
I'll get there just need to be a bit patient, lets hope the rest of the jobs i have to do, go a bit smoother...... :drive:
