I need a engine bay fan for my 98 mgf.
If anyone can help I would appreciate it.
I did Leighs cut in check and found that the fan is seized with a blown fuse
Does anyone have any tips on how to remove/replace it easily. :-? :-?
Thanks Dave

its not easy to get to as im sure your aware.ifyou remove the expansion bottle it gives you arm room.if you take the engine out its easy access is no problem
but the issue can be the small bolts snapping off.you may find that you may land up take the engine bridge, the alloy bit off the subframe.
again those bolts can snap as well,
so if the front alloy bit needs to come off. spray loads of oil on the bottom on the bolts on the bottom of the subframe.
you can find removing one simple item leads to rebuilding the hole dam car.I have some small air tools that can access these places if lucky.
but with this weather I doubt if you even need an engine fan lol

I have one you can have if you need one, just pm me your address.

Not the easiest things to get to, but doable with care.

It might be worth trying to free off the fan in situ. Loads of plusgas and a bit of to and fro.

Dave is in the Anitipodes, so an engine fan should be working.

You could always think laterally and mount a small 12volt fan in the lid vents to extract hot air.

Thanks for all the help. I did get the fan moving but it is still tight and a bit "gritty" feeling. It was probably seized when I got the Mg 6 months ago and it has been driven on some hot days. The dash warning light does work when the plug is pulled. I will check that its operating correctly with a heat gun once I get the fan working. Thanks Dave

I have fitted a pair of small extraction fans to the engine cover grill to my car, But I use them as boosters in conjunction with the existing engine bay fan.
The one's I fitted are from a quad bike, they look like computer fan but they're weather resistant. They do pump out a lot more hot air then just the standard set up.
But I don't know that I'd like to rely solely on them.

I you were here in Melbourne I could give you a hand sorting it but I see you've got NSW plates so I assume your up in Smegtown, (Sydney) that's a bit far from here to be convenient for you.

If it "feels gritty" I'd say the bearings in the fan are well and truly rooted!

Malcom has kindly offered to pull the parts I need out of his fan and send them over. This will save on weight and postage. I just need to pull mine out and apart tomorrow.

Thanks Malcom

No problem, have the full assembly but would be easier to ship just the motor but can send the whole unit if needed. :-)

Quite simple to strip down the assembly , 2 bolts hold the outer guard and mounts on while the main fan is held on with a single clip .
