Posted 12 years 5 months ago #53794It will be all right in the end. If it isn't all right yet, then it is not yet the end..

Posted 12 years 5 months ago #54598Dad is now at Sidmouth hospital in his town, so smaller and quieter and he has his own room, but its further from Steve & Fi who Im currently staying with in Crediton. I managed to drive Penelope from Sidmouth to Crediton (about 25 miles) with Fi as my passenger offering moral support as well as some cringe-worthy tunes! It was incredibly uncomfortable and caused a great deal of pain, but I did it! Don't think I could manage much further though. So now Penelope has new cam belt, front lower ball joint, SS coolant pipes and some lovely TF rear lights thanks to Kayleigh and Dave fitting me in at short notice. Very frustrating watching someone else do the work you were intending to do yourself!
Dad is complaining of more pain every day but seems to be improving every time I see him. He was talking about going home to write some letters yesterday :slapme: About to go and see him and deliver Fathers Day present but not sure they'll allow a bottle of whisky in hospital?

Posted 12 years 5 months ago #54986Dad had to go back to Exeter hospital for some more x-rays as they do not have the right equipment in Sidmouth. They ended up admitting him and have decided that the best course of action is to operate on his collar bones, as otherwise they will begin to fuse at the wrong angle and would need to be broken 6+ weeks down the line and re-aligned. The reason they did not do this straight away, as they would do ordinarily, is because of complications with 3 breaks in his upper spine by his neck.
All things being equal, they will be operating tomorrow, then he will be put in a different brace, as the one he is in at the moment is putting pressure on his collar bones when sitting upright.
Not sure when he will be moved back to Sidmouth yet, but will keep you posted...
Here is a photo of him after a tipple of whisky, which I accidentally took into hospital to cheer him up
