I arrived in Devon yesterday and went to see Dad. He was suffering with his bowels last week, which knocked him for six, but that has calmed down now and he is feeling much better. Understandably, though, he is fed up of being stuck in hospital and is desperate to come home!

So this morning he had a home assessment with a nurse and a physio to see if he can return home. He was here for around an hour and has just left. With the help of some very kind neighbors, we made some recommended adjustments while they were here, which they were happy with. So now it all hinges on whether they can find a carer who can help him bathe and take his neck/back brace on and off before and after, the problem being the C2 break, which made Christopher Reeve (Superman) a quadriplegic, requiring a wheelchair and breathing apparatus for the rest of his life after being thrown from a horse.

The nurse was unsure how likely it will be that they will be able to find someone to do this for him, but I will keep you all posted..

He will be returning to RD&E hospital (Exeter) on Wednesday 25th for more X-rays to assess how his injuries are healing, C2 in particular. I'll know more after that...

great to hear that they are considering allowing him home, try contacting your local branch of Crossroads Care, they are an excellent organisation covering most parts of the UK and can provide trained carers to perform exactly this sort of role,
I'm not exactly sure of where Mike lives, but Crossroads Care South West can be contacted on 01803 323510, if they don't cover Mike's area, then I';m sure they put you in touch with the branch that does.
If you need any other help re contacting nurse agencies etc, just shout as I can get all the contacts, latest performance reports etc through my job
