Hari's (tui ) dad has had an accident..

UPDATE: Spoke to nurse this morning at around 8:30. Unfortunately, Dad's mobile is now dead and nurse phone doesn't reach him so wasn't able to speak to him, but she reassured me he is doing ok. He was up having breakfast with the physios - I am sure loving the attention of lots of young female nurses.

He is in a neck/back brace and will be for the next 6 weeks.

He has 2 cracked vertebrae in upper back, near neck. And both collar bones cracked.

Huge thanks to Steve and TipperMG for going to see him this week and being a friendly face. I wish I could. I know he will appreciate some creature comforts from home (namely cigars!) like fresh clothes, electric razor, etc. so would be really thankful if someone could make this possible.

I am really upset I can't be there straight away, despite Allan (Diesel Destroyer) very kindly offering to drive me down last night, but still not driving myself and have my own hospital appointment this Thursday! Yes, we are a right pair! I'll be getting the train to Exeter on Friday to see him - thank you again to Steve for being my driver and offering to let me stay with you and Fi.

Sadly, this means we will not be able to come on the Lakes run.

Wishing you and your father well. Its a shame to miss the run, but family comes first.

your Dad's health is much more important than a Lakes Run! :yesnod: Anyway, I always organise a Lakes run in September so, hopefully, you'll both be mended by then.
And 'The Old Crocks Canter' sounds a good name for it! :bust:

I have exams the first week of September and term starts on either 17th or 24th, can't quite remember. The best would be if you could coincide with Merseyside tunnel run on Sunday 9th (so Friday 7th/Saturday 8th) otherwise next year...

For those interested, here are a few updates:

Steve1951 went to see Dad in hospital last night and here is what he had to say:

As you would imagine being Mike he is trying to put a brave face on it, but he is in a great deal of pain and discomfort.

He has to wear a chest and neck brace, and the big problem with it is that he can only sit and stare up at the ceiling, he cannot turn his head or lift his arms I repeat but this is only because of the brace and his collar bones, so he cannot use a phone either to ring anyone or to answer it, read, watch telly, feed himself or anything. He can move all of his limbs just has very restricted movement because of the brace and also his bruising and the pain.

Naturally because of being unable to do anything he is going to be very bored, so if anyone close can get in to see him I am sure he would be over the moon , we intend going again tuesday as I am sure I remember tipper saying he would be going monday,

He may not think it now, but he has been one very lucky man. in his descent he completely wrecked the banister, so It is amazing he hasnt done more damage to himself than he has..

I was planning on going to Devon anyway this Friday, but having given the trainline people a sob story, I managed to get the full price of my train ticket for Friday refunded! Getting through to a bloke and being teary helped my cause I think! So will be going tomorrow afternoon to surprise him, as he won't be expecting me 'til Friday.

Also Kayleigh and Dave, the mobile mechanics, have pulled out all the stops to do the bits on Penelope Dad had intended to do this week - cam belt and front lower ball joint.

An update from Steve today:

Mike has been working on tui's replacement car, ( lets see how long this one lasts her ), ready for to start driving once she is able.

He said last night he was worried about the belt whining, It supposedly had a new belt, but we both reckon they used the old tensioner, and there is a dodgy ball joint as well,

Now the bugger is swinging the lead, he doesnt reckon he can get the cam belt and ball joint done by the weekend now.

This obviously means tui is stranded, and rather than being able to get back into driving, ( if her confidence is up to it ) slowly and without pressure, is now dropped in at the deep end.

Have spoken to Kayleigh, and asked if they could manage in amongst all the other cars they are sorting this weekend to do the belt and tensioner.

Her reply was ******** **** ******* ******* and ******* ******** ******** ***** Ok, but you can *********** *** *****

I think she meant yes.

They are both true stars, they are already doing Amy, the scoobie and Dans belt and pipes, and have dropped in at the last minute to help someone else out,

So my thought is a whip around for tui ( she will love that ) to help pay for the repairs, and also for mike to help make life easier for him. I imagine some means of boredom relief would be ideal. :broon:

He is indeed, but all the more reason that he will recover quickly! (Hopefully anyway) Thanks Jac
