Nope, red lights are only illegal on the front of a car. Look at majority of goods vehicles. They have lights down both the sides which are red and a legal requirement.

This, however, could pose a problem. The lights certainly aren't spiraling but does rotation, creating a sold light, constitute as movement?

Grey area?

I'll accept that, but I think the whole "moving" light thing just about covers it really. No grey area.

You could also argue that the no light should be visible to the rear, or no red light to the front rule would be broken when you went onto full lock.

I should clarify this is for a pedal powered bike not a car and having poked my local plod they have said

@EastleighPolice

@SunflowerDuck can be very visible from a profile view, so in principle yes depending on type, @cyclestrian may have an expert opinion.

@Cyclestrian

@SunflowerDuck @EastleighPolice focus on decent (£) front/rear first then any extra strobes/retroreflect strips etc are a bonus #cyclesafe

if colour is an issue perhaps I shall avoid red :yesnod:

I think a disco ball of each handle and lazer off each...errr....sorry....errrr....knee-cap could be called for in your case then!

And CJJ, still ambiguous on this, the light is stationary on a moving wheel, same as the lights are on the car. I'm thinking rule is referring to a light that moves about when the car is in motion. I think the novelty factor could be argued as distracting, but any more distracting than Blackpool illuminations on rear of many HGV's?

We will see when my collar is felt and my argument forgot! lol.

Erm... Truck side markers are amber...... not red! Check it out!!
Red lights only allowed at the rear and must indicate the width of the vehicle.

It will be all right in the end. If it isn't all right yet, then it is not yet the end..

I am not sure where or how they go.

From the picture I am thinking I would be more worried about aircraft attempting to land behind me, they kind of look like runway lights... I am not sure why you would want the laser lines or what they are supposed to do?

I can only think that they are meant to be a kind of Don't cross line (I have one of those too) I can sort of see the point of them when you are cycling with a trailer or larger width object travelling behind you but cannot see the point of them if you are just being a bike.

And no one has yet come up with the level of darkness answer or if spending more pennies is better i.e if a £10 ones last ages but 99p ones last about 5 minutes meaning it is false economy to buy the cheaper ones?

Bikes are often fitted with white reflectors in the spokes which would show a circle of light when headlamps strike them. No batteries required! Halfords sell 'em.

It will be all right in the end. If it isn't all right yet, then it is not yet the end..

Kinda both right here John. Take a butchers at 'side-reflector markings' down link to 4th or 5th. Bear in mind my HGV/PSV spanner-bash training was in late 80's early 90's and I stopped practising in mid 90's.

Am I excused? :whistle:

Darn, forgot link............http://www.transportsfriend.org/road/lights/position.html

Thanks I do have them, I just want to be a bit flashier especially when the little bit of road I do have to travel on involves fuel tankers hurtling past me on a regular basis and dusk being that horrible time of the day for accidents which is when I would have to travel it, I thought that with all the blingy cars someone might have experience with them
