three weeks later theyll be up, pot on once first true leaves appear.
feed weekly once fruiting, keep as warm and light as possible.
mine were in polytunnel from late March til mid September, then back in south facing window til now.
they'll prune back in December, and hopefully come again in spring. plants can fruit up to five years.

Definition of chilli in English
chilli
Pronunciation: /ˈtʃɪli/
(also chilli pepper, US chile or chili)
BTW I'm impressed with your chillis. :broon: :broon:

Posted 11 years 1 month ago #132160If using the single L, which I am given to understand is also correct, it would be chilies wouldn't it?

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chili_pepper
"The chili pepper (also chile pepper or chilli pepper, from Nahuatl chīlli [ˈt͡ʃiːlːi]) is the fruit of plants from the genus Capsicum, members of the nightshade family, Solanaceae."
As one of my colleagues told me (as a non native speaker) - if it feels and sounds correct in English, it is correct.
But your PEPPERS are really impressing, green thumbs up!

Posted 11 years 1 month ago #132164We dabble with chillies a little, thigh not too hot!
In the nineties I was working in Romania where they have some wicked hot ones. My mate did the classic 'no chilli is too hot for me' statement.......it's customary to have some mild sliced ones as nibbles on the table, floating in vinegar. He asked the waiter for something hotter : when he took a bite his face slowly turned deep scarlet and sweat broke out. Not wanting to lose face he carried on.
We could hear the next morning the soft girl-like weeping from the bog.........and noted his reluctance to sit down later.

These aren't mine, just what I hope mine aspire to.

Posted 11 years 1 month ago #132184Useless anecdote: when I was a power plant shift engineer we used to grow tomatoes, peppers etc in grow bags placed just above the cooling water path at the base of the cooling towers: 40 degree constant ambient temp, loads of oxygen and oxygenated water.
Your electricity bills were not in vain. :broon: we ate well on night shift. :yesnod:

let me know how they ripen up! :yesnod:
this is the first year i've gone for a single variety, and concentrated on half a dozen plants.
theyre mild enough to slice on pizza when yellow, but once red and seeded up they pack some clout.
each chilly grows to 20cm - i forgot to add any scale to the photo. :woo2:
