Just in case you haven't seen the news, paper tax discs are being abolished from October this year. You still need to have your car taxed but you will not receive a paper tax disc to go in the windscreen.

Car Tax will no longer be transferable. When selling a car you will be able to receive a refund for any full months of road tax remaining. Anyone buying a car will have to get it taxed before driving it away. So you need to be careful when selling or buying a car to make sure you don't get stung with a fine of up to £1000.

Not quite sure what i make of this, at least when you handed over your hard earned cash you actually got something for you money albeit, a piece of paper.

Similar to the MOT. you used to get a nice coloured certificate, now just a scrappy bit of paper - if you're lucky. :nonod:

I've got our new 12 months tax disc waiting to go in the TF at the end of this month...
:drive:
Might keep it when it expires as a 'nostalgia' momento.

Tjey have basically put an end to people selling cars with "12 months tax and test"

I really dont like it ..makes it harder to sell a car privatly but no real difference to buy or sell at a car dealership so just seems its another way to make dealerships look more attractive.
Also i dont like the fact that 225 quid a year and ive got nuthin at all to show for it other than probably a purchase receipt

My question is, if there stopping the whole printing process of the disks and such, is it going to be cheaper to tax your car? If the whole new idea of doing it digitally saves man power then surely we should be seeing cheaper road tax?

The argument is to avoid fraud and evasion, not to cut costs, apparently.

I feel sorry for my fellow printers. :(

Though I wouldn't feel as bad if car tax was scrapped. ;)

And yet there are still people out there selling expensive tax disc holders. I saw a very nice MG metal one in Autosave about 6 months ago for £17 and was mulling it over when the guy on the till said, 'I wouldn't bother they are phasing out discs'...good on him. I asked him if they would be phasing out the guy with the red flag required to walk in front of my car and he told me not to be silly - that would be real progress.
