When the K series engine was first designed the expected total life was 150,000 miles, then scrap!!!

The K series derives from an experimental all plastic engine. That's the one that was designed to be recycled at 150 000 miles. Apparently plastic and alloy share similar characteristics under tension so much of the design and even some of the plastic (inlet manifold, throttle body etc) made it in to production.

My TF's done 38000 only the last 2000 miles belong to me.

I'm sure there is a similar thread to this on the Org were some ZT's with the 1.8 engine have hit 300000+ miles.

Mine has only done 105,000 miles in 19 years, an average of just over 5,500 miles/year.

mine's on 144k. It's 2000 reg F and still going strong.

as for experimental plastic engine........ive seen this on a ldv engine correct me if im wrong........i was told some of the timing gears were plastic......the ldv engine in question might have been the peoguot model

Sadly the Dolomite needs a full restoration now. I sold it to my nephew about 7 years ago and it's still where i parked it before then. Rodents have made a meal of soem of the trim inside and meatal moth has run riot. It seems it's going next week as it's now been sold. Although the ad said it has not been used on the road sone 1997 the muppet texted to say if we put a battery on it with some fresh fuel would it drive acros the country to the Wirrel. It's only got 45,000 genuine on the clock too it's a 77 1500 HL BTW..

Head gasket was done when we bought is. Cooling pipes done, so as we see it now nice car for the lady.

The hydraballs are pumped up yet!!!

Mines just turned onto 36000 miles so no where near but still not bad for a 11 year old car

my mrs 4 year old corsa is on 46000!!!
