i cant say the mini aint cool cause when i was 16 i had a mate who had passed his driving test.......he had a h reg 1970 mini 850 cc.........the brown paintwork was patchy.......he had fitted wheel spacers and a front spoiler and started to spray the car in grey primer with a spraycan......later mods included a bonnet scoop..........armed with a custom car magazine(street machine) we planned the cars future................wide wheels, custom paint, bucket seats,1275 engine, spotlights spax adjustables, union jack roof and a chrome rocker box.........but in reality money was scarce and filling the tank with petrol was the only cash the mini saw spent on it....oil changes were never done by draining the oil and replacing for new...you just kept topping it up everytime it had lost some.........it withstood the thrashing it was given .......the smell of petrol around it was electrifying for a teenager........cassette player loud and going fast over hump bridges.......i think that was watching the scalextric advert at the time with the clubman minis racing over a hump bridge......racing down a steep hill we call yarlet.....eyes fixed on that oval dash has the speedo was reaching 75mph.....cmon i shouted take it to 100mph............we run out of hill and left the speed record for another day.......it needs a tune he said......we thought it was the coolest out.......proud has punch to be seen in it...............going out cruising the boulevard we called it.................we must have been young dudes. :hgf:

Those were good times. Drove a lot in a 2cv with a friend. He used 2 engines. For long drives (weekend to paris) he put in the standard fuel economic engine and back home he just changed it and put a Visa engine in. With that we drove thru the greenhouse area where there are cannels with steep bridges across them . We used to jump the 2v all wheels loose! Leaving our bottoms at the bottom of the car (rubberband seats...) !!!

The 2cv a cult car in its own right......must of been fantastic driving around france with that roof folded back, has sunroofs in cars years ago were scarce....probably due to the fact if they were fitted the cars structural strength lost.....always remember the 2cv having those wacky fold up windows and only 3 nuts holding the wheels on.............thats bloody dangerous we shouted the first time we noticed one on the school car park.......and then there was a van version....which made you think someone had been inventive with corrugated steel sheets.and some of the older ones like in the last picture had a starting handle.....................thin wheels on these cars look like our modern day space saver wheel
