I've just had a nose about on tyre review sites for davanti tyres and there are two parts to my conclusion.
1. They are very grippy tyres with good reviews for handling.
2. They wear out quickly. By that I mean less than 10,000 miles. In one review the user only managed 2000 miles! And another only 8000.
So I guess the good grip is from a softer compound.

As sure as night follows day David, there has never been and it is highly unlikely there ever will be a tyre which offers exceptional levels of grip and that doesn't wear out quickly!
However in the long distant past this used to happen and in so writing, I am just old enough to remember when the Mochelin X started to gain acceptance in the UK marketplace in the mid 1950's (I was only 6 or 7 but was already fascinated with the motor car and tyres) when my Dad had some fitted to his Vauxhall Velox, they gave exceptional levels of grip and lasted 3 to 4 times longer than the cross ply tyres they replaced.
