Is my clutch on the way out... :(

Car is driving rather strangely at the moment, it feels like I am "riding the clutch"

Also revving at 3000 rpm when I am on the motorway @ 70... am I in for abig bill or just worried over nothing?

To check your clutch:-
With the handbrake on full (If your handbrake is poor also press the brake pedal), switch on the engine, depress the clutch, engage 1st gear and slowly release the clutch.

The car should stall, if the clutch is dodgy you may be able to release the clutch a good way or even completely before it stalls.

If that happens check your clutch fluid level, and also check the movement of the clutch arm. If they're OK, You probably need a new clutch friction plate.

OK.. have tested this in first and second, call stalls in both cases, which is good... how do I check fluid levels? Looking at other sources on the net, it appears to being not as simple as checking under the bonnet....

Checking the level is just looking under the bonnet...
You need two people to check the movement of the clutch arm, but I would suggest your clutch is OK.

Checked it last night, need to top it up... very relieved... do I need a certain type... or is clutch fluid cluth fluid?

I use Dot 5.1 clutch/brake Fluid.

Thanks David, duly installed... felt better pretty much straight away!

Just need to wash the damn thing when it cools down a bit now...

did not get around to washing the car... clutch fluid is looking good though... I topped it up on Saturday and having checked it, there are no signs of further loss.

clutch has gone... on hols..waiting for the RAC to take me home on the back of a tow truck.... a couple of positives, wont have to fill the car up to get home, and wont have to drive home either... on a more minus side... gotta get a new clutch...

where are you in the country mate? with the help of clive i did my clutch when it went saving £300+ of garage fees, may be able to help you out

offer of help is much appreciated, but way south of you I'm afraid... car is currently in Devon, but with the help of the RAC, will be back home in Sandhurst near Camberley tonight...
