In Keeping with my crazy head here's a question was created by rough luck
Posted 14 years 3 weeks ago #17882with vacum cleaners such as dyson's ever increasing there power by use of cyclones to boost the speeds and sucking
Is this power at a stage where we could use a 12v to 240v converter, to power a stripped down dyson to use as a supercharger???????????
after all the 12v ones previously useless are now starting to work, all be it not as well as the adds claim but never the less its coming
sooooooo your thoughts

Posted 14 years 3 weeks ago #17886would the power increase because the speed of the in put to the second unit would be faster after passing through the first cyclone
or
would it fade as its further from the motor
I know he has the motor patented, it might be why they haven't been made
or maybe coz it dont work....lol

Posted 14 years 3 weeks ago #17901but my question would be how well the plastic blades would hold up to the fuel air mix? could the fuel distableise the plastic?
i've herd horror stories about ceramic turbo blades and what they can do when the disintegrate
the only answer to this question is probably to try it and see?
what with Chris's rolling road coming along shortly it might be possible to mount a K series engine on a TF/F rear subby and run it on the road to see what power its producing, you would be welcome to my old 1.4K out the ZR when the T-monster goes in could use it as a test bed jon, i know your mad enough to try!

Right a normal lambda operates by only really giving 3 signals, these are that the engine is running lean, ok or rich, so the ecu in the case of mems unit adapt the fuel, unless its told otherwise by the sensors, i.e. cold starting
the wideband sensor can sense tiny changes in fueling down to 0.01 AFR (AIR FUEL RATIO) when used with an emerald this can then adapt your fuelling alot more accurately giving various results from showing you how to get more power or how to make it run more economically, or if your heavily modifying it can warn you when the engine is running dangerously lean

Posted 14 years 2 weeks ago #18087btw i've found someone selling Emeralds with all the kit for 600 quid
will almost defiantly get one for the ZR (putting the coilovers on hold for this reason)
i don't suppose you know if having the emerald lets you run electronic dials? like EGT Oil temp/pressure etc? or will everything still need to be hard wired to the engine?

Posted 14 years 2 weeks ago #18115As Power = Voltage x current (in an ideal world - forgetting about power factor etc)
Current = Wattage / Voltage
So, for a 1kW unit, it will draw around 4 amps.
By using the Current formula above, we can see that current is inversely proportional to the voltage.
So, reducing 240V to 12V is by a factor of 20.
This means that the Current, to sustain the 1kW, will rise by a factor of 20.
So that is 20 x 4A
That is 80A
Now factor in the losses an inverter incurs and you will be looking nearer 90A
So, to run your Dyson as a supercharger, assuming it is only 1kW, you will be drawing more current than the alternator can provide.
Dohhhhhhh.
