I firmly deny any involvement with Haggis! :lecture:

As for my deduction that CJJ was rather intimate with jelly - it was elementary my dear Watson! That and his boot was filled with these:

Can we have a little warning icon beside peoples names so that we know who the Marmite/Peanut butter loving weirdos are? I think it is our social duty to "out" these people. :)

On another note, regarding the title of this thread, they are now rolling out the rule book. Looks like an attempt to cut down on banter etc. I can see why, but if it gets too heavy handed it might be time for me to move on. I enjoy/have enjoyed the banter, so if it starts getting too fact based then I will probably bow out gracefully. I have tred to tell them in the past that the reason you get answers so quickly is that people hang around for the banter. It is ironic, but I think in an attempt to cut down the banter to expose the genuine help posts, you will actually lose a lot of the help posts too as people won't bother. I certainly won't sit with the site open just to answer what screwheaded metric thread bolt do I need to hold my walnut dash on. I can't but help feel the good times are over.

I can't help feeling that the problem on the MGroper website is that they refuse to accept that the F/TF section has really acquired a life of its own separate to the rest of the site. Many posters, including myself are just not interested in the rest of the website.

They continue to move threads that are intended for that section alone into other sections that I can't, or can't be bothered, to find. The annoying thing is that there is never an explanation as to why it had to be moved. I believe that unless it is obvious that the thread is misplaced and probably won't be answered where it is, then leave it alone. I think that most posters know where they want their post to be, unless they are newbies, where a little guidance might be needed.

Clive, I do agree with you about the banter versus fact based threads argument.

I think there needs to be some order to it though. I think the banter should be kept under control until the original question has been answered, then by all means have a laugh!

Totally agree, and to be honest I can't remember any posts that weren't answered before mayhem breaks out. The problem for me is that if you tighten it down to technical only then it will be a sad place to be and I have much more fun things to do in my life. Maybe a change would be good for me. ;)

Technical only - would be so geeky as to bore the pants off most people.
Long time posters would soon fall away, as the 1000th thread about 'What tyres?' hit the screen!

I too feel that the F/TF section of the tother forum has outgrown itself. Its a shame that its happened really, because it was a good site. I very rarely ventured out of that section, unless to have a nose in the for sale section.
I suppose we are lucky because we are dedicated F/TF forum we do have the room to allow people to go off on a tangent, however, the rules are still there...

Hi CJJ, I might be taking a slightly different view to yours. This Post is in the T-Bar section that states " This forum is for members of our community to get together & chat away about any topic! Its for chatting, I have no problems if the original topic is lost. In fact as the originator of this one I feel a little proud that it gained a life of its own. Now I have noticed that many contributors loose the point a bit, (I may have done this myself on this one). Or missunderstand the point being made. Just as I have just done regarding your post above, ( I thought you were refering to T-Bar not Rover.Org. ) So restating the original question and starting again has its merits. Also a possibility would be for the moderators to automatically add the original post to the top of each page after say three pages ? Any thoughts ?

As for the little warning icon to go against Marmite / Peanut Butter Users, what should we put against Jelly molesters ?

I wish

THe Lone Gunman

I hope it finds a good balance.

I can't help feeling though that a few peoples noses have been put out of joint lately and they are falling back on flashing the rules around. I may be wrong but it seems like a child who has suddenly gone into a sulk.

Instead of leaving everyone feeling as though they are having their knuckles wrapped, why don't they have the sphericals to PM the people that they think are behind the problems. I realise I may be one of them, but at least then I would know, but at the minute I feel dirty without even knowing why.

I actually went on there to do some posting, but when I saw that post it just drained my will to be there. I will just have to see how it goes. :dunno:

The rules are there, but can be changed.

My problem with the turmoil that is happening at the minute is that they are trying to change something that isn't broken. It has the most posts and hits of any forum I have seen.
