Modern technology step backs.

1) Compact cameras - I recently went to replace my wifes Sony compact digi camera with another compact as it was starting to have problems with colours. Could I find one with a veiw finder? No! They all only have a screen.

Result is you can not prevent camera shake by tucking your elbows into your side.

2) Smart phones - My Nokia E7 and my wifes N8 have wireless network connection but will not store the code for our home network, it has to be entered everytime, 2 of my daughters both have Nokia C3-00 and the eldest has a Sony-Erricson, theirs all store the code! A case of a smarter phone not being so clever

3) Car head units - 3 years ago when I replaced my H/U I got one which has controls for a CD auto changer and rear inputs for 3.5 audio and usb so with an adaptor I can run an iPod or MP3 player through it.

Being old (46) I don't have an MP3, let alone iPod and most of my music is on CD so having a CD head unit is good and on long trips I can load the auto changer with loads of discs. The H/U can also read MP3 tracks from a CD so can play music I have copied from my record collection.

I have just tried buying a similar new set up for my MGF, the only H/U with an input for an auto changer I can find is a cassette player! How retro is that?

None of the new ones appear to have rear input for USB so I can't even get a stand alone hard drive and fill that with MP3 tracks without having wires trailing everywhere.

4) Banks - My wife works for a bank that was recently taken over by another, they are adopting the systems of the new bank and reverting to having pay in slips and withdrawal slips, you now have to write out your requests for the tellers to copy rather than just swiping cards and scanning cheques thus increasing the time taken, paper used and having more chance of making mistakes.

And when they introduce the other banks computer system the staff will all lose their email, both internal and external!

Do you have any examples of advancing technology being backwards?

On the subject of 'no viewfinder' compact cameras.
Most compacts now have a huge zoom facility so the standard optical viewfinder can't cope. The only alternative is a viewfinder that is actually another small screen, like most 'bridge' cameras or the SLR that still can use an optical viewfinder.

Either way a lot more money!... :pinch:

That only really effects the apperance, not the workings.

But just with a veiw finder at least you know you are looking in the correct direction.

True, although I've seen people photographing their nose using a viewfinder.:rofl:

Tsch. Hard drives are sooo yesterday. USB Memory sticks are the future.
