yeah it could be that....
im tempted to buy a cheapy 12v thermostatic controller and make a 2nd stand alone system...
the location of the stock fan seems pretty flawed as it just blasts out cool air from the "intake" and the hot air sits at the top of the engine bay and i think the ECU is over-heating... (causing the PS to die, the gearbox to get stuck in 1 ratio, and the rpm counter to die)

its definately sucking air from the engine bay and trying to blow it out of the engine bay "inlet" down the side of the drivers door...
