Posted 13 years 1 month ago #29735Repositioning wasn't too bad, it was just shrinking it around concave curves that was difficult.
But hey! get this...Today UPS delivered a second order of film identical to the first. It seems that the shipper at the supplier made a mistake as they only charged me once. I gave them a call and they said "Our mistake, just keep it."
Now I'll have enough material to do the "V"pattern on the spoiler as I intended all along (If I can get up the motivation!)

Posted 13 years 1 month ago #29755I've also got the mirrors to do, and have been considering applying film to the windshield frame as well
as it has a few bad stone chips that kook awful. This is a toss up though as I would have to repair the stone chips before applying the film so why not just repaint the frame in black? I'll see how the mirrors look first. I don't want to overdo the carbon fibre look.
EDIT: 30 Oct 2011
It's been a couple of weeks and I have finally made some time to do some more vinyl on the car. We have been busy with renovations
I applied vinyl to the mirrors using pretty much the same procedure as the spoiler, but using a small blow dryer this time. The blow dryer is definately a lot easier to control. I did find that working in adequate light is essential. The first mirror I covered was the passenger side, which was on the darker side of the carport which made it difficult to see creases in the material. It would have been really nice to have the car on a hoist so that I could raise it to do the underside. In the end the driver's side worked out well and is a keeper but I will be doing the passenger side over.
Not a big deal as you only need a 10" square of vinyl so I might get it done next weekend.
Here's a pic of the better side. :yesnod:

+1 on that Rich, too many carbon fibre bits will look cheap and tacky. Less is more.
As one of the few MGF owners in Canada I believe you have a moral responsibility to maintain your car in as original condition as possible whilst putting one or two of your own little personal mods here and there.
.....Oh heck, then again it's your play thing, sod everyone else, do what makes you feel good.
 I used to be indecisive but I'm not so sure these days

Posted 13 years 1 month ago #29767I've never been a concours guy.
Sometimes I think that I get more fun out of working on and modding my MGs than I do driving them.
When I run out of mods to do the car usually gets sold in favour of a new project.

Aside from the 4 or 5 cars that mgfcars.ca has for sale, there are two other MGFs that I know of in Ontario, both near Toronto, one of which is the car John sold to his brother in law I believe.
In my local club one of the guys would be interested in buying a F but it would have to be LHD.

Posted 13 years 1 month ago #29837Another Mk1 MGF, this one a VVC, has arrived in Victoria BC from Japan. It was imported by a long time MG guy who had a good look around my car at the All British Field Meet in May.
