MG Quiz
Spot on the disused RAF Gaydon airfield was purchased by BL in the early 70's and passed along the Austin Rover MG BMW Ford line. The main runway was converted into part of a 4 lane test track, and many other tarmac and off road tracks were created. The MGF did some of its development on the test track at Gaydon. In fact for the first two years after production of the MGF began, 'Birthday' parties were held at the track for the MGF.
The first photo showed a 1959 E-Type prototype E2A at the Gaydon Airfield and the Gaydon site and track is now owned by TATA, the owners of Jaguar Land Rover. The track is still used for some development work on Jaguar Land Rover vehicles along with Aston Martin who have their headquarters and manufacturing at the Gaydon site.
I bet Leigh Ping knew this one but kindly held off, it can't be very far from his home as the crow flies.
Congratulations Psymon, over to you.

What? About working there you mean?
I was the inspector in charge of the Rover guard dog section arm of the security, fire and ambulance department. So, I worked at all the Rover sites and car launches. Primarily based at Longbridge I secured the cars at the mgf launch at Coombe abbey and had some nice chats with John Towers, the company director, in doing so.
Speaking of towers, I ran the dog courses up in the old airfield tower at Gaydon and spent countless hours patrolling and training the dogs and handlers there. At Longbridge, between 4 of us (with German Shepherd dogs), we caught loads of scroats breaking into cars and detained them until the police arrived. I'm talking about employees cars too. A bloke can't even go to work without having their wheels pinched nowadays.
Ejected a few camouflaged photographers from taking pics of the test track vehicles too. Big money in that. You'd never find them without dogs.
