:omg: Didn't one of your members from Epsom MGOC get a quote first :nonod: How did they let themselves in to such a ridiculous situation.
That is not a price, that's extortion. There should be a law against that sort of thing.

Before the demise of MG Rover, dealerships were charging anything from £1000 to £1500 to do a head gasket job on an MGF or TF, this was based on 8 hours of workshop time at around £100 an hour, plus parts plus the dreaded VAT. Som garages were saying that a new engine was required at a cost of £3000 fitted. The MGOC fitted one of the first Ford developed (Land Rover) MLS gaskets etc to another members car and the cost was £1000. Then Russell Walsh and others appeared, like a breath of fresh air, doing a proper job at the correct price. A chap phoned me recently to say that he was going to scrap his MGF because it had HGF and he was quoted £1200 to £1500 to do the job, having just spent £3500 at Epsom Motor Group having the brakes and steering replaced~ i told him to go to Russell who would do it for around £400 :bust:

:omg: Thanks Bryan. Now I better appreciate why 'MG Rover HGF' causes such a violent knee jerk reaction amongst the public at large.
I guess I'm blessed knowing a couple of good mechanics and being able/wanting (mainly out of personal satisfaction) to do almost every job on my vehicles.
It makes me angry  when I hear of people paying silly money for jobs to be done on their cars.
