Has anyone put their car into a garage and it come out worse than when it went in?

Took mine to get MOT'd yesterday and I picked it up with the engine management light suddenly on and it sounding like a bag of spanners. They told me it had failed on emissions, however on further inspection today the Lambda sensor was unplugged....

Quite a few times! Once put a car in to have the track rod ends done and got it back, when driving down the motorway got a vibration that gradually worsened,. Pulled off and went into a tyre place and they told me that the wheel nuts hadn't been tightened up! :omg:

Halfords, I know my own stupid fault, I assumed an MOT was an MOT the same price therefore the same level of service everywhere.

Halfords? :omg: Did you ask them why they'd disconnected it?

I always use Peter Allison Auto Repairs, High Moor Farm Garage, How Mill, Brampton. He is brilliant!
01228 670733 or mobile 07786 914667

He does MOTs as well as repairs. I've just put a review up on the forum.

Last MOT I stayed with him while he mot'ed it and he tried for ages to get the emissions to pass, and in the end suggested I do a quick Italian tune up and bring it back. Passed, no problems.

Cheers for that David, will use him for the next one, I've a lump of money hitting my bank account later in the month so will be uprating the exhaust anyway, just an excuse for the dark side to rear its ugly head!

I've heard a hot TF even with a de-cat can pass an emissions test.

I have met an F owner who gives his de-catted car a blast up the bypass then into his favoutite MoT tester where they are standing by. it always passes. Apparently the turbulence caused by a 1.8 swept volume puping air through a cylinder head that started out as a 1.4 causes this, and gives the good economy.

Unfortunately, I believe one of the new criteria for an MOT pass, will be 'Presence of a Catalytic Converter' so it looks like you have to have one even if the car can pass without.

The Nissan was decatted and passed emisions, but I've since put one back on.

I always use Summit Garage (Dudley) Ltd for my work-mind you, I do own it :)!!! Seriously though, I guess anyone can make a mistake, it's how you handle the error is the important thing? I do hear of a lot of issues with some of the fast fit places-doing things they hadn't ought to to charge more money than they should for repairs. It's just not right!
