1/. Would anybody who has an MGTF newer than 02 let me know if the fuel gauge stays at the level or settles back to zero when the ignition is off/overnight?

2/. could somebody tell me what i should be connecting and where to in the following ( figure 2)?

It's a thermostat for the heating - lcd with battery backup.
I (think I) know I need a live, a switched live, and a neutral but so far I've gone through three fuses and several loud bangs. :coat:

Can't help with number 2 but on my 04 TF the fuel gauge drops to zero with the ignition off.

Back with front wheel drive and 181HP at the wheels :)

don't think you need a ground as its battery powered. Diagram doesn't show anywhere for ground.

Perement live to pin3 , pin2 probably no connection and pin1 return back to boiler or timer.

That's a relief, because I had to replace the fuel gauge on mine and prior to swapping the fuel gauge stayed up but now it drops. i thought I might have broken it. ;)

It's only battery back up. It's supposed to run off the mains.
I can get it to switch the pump on and off with the thermostat and display from the battery. Take the batteries out and it stops working.

David for 2, Live in goes to 3 COM, when the temperature drops the thermostat will switch and allow the 'switched live' to go out from 1. You will not normally use 2 unless you want a switched live when the temperature is above the one you set, if for instance you want to switch a cooling appliance on.

The connection of Neutral is made at the appliance/boiler.

Phone me if you need any more help

Psymon was correct sorry I was slow typing.

Your data sheet says the thermostat is battery powered NOT mains

Ah, That probably explains why when I tried to connect all three there was a big bang. I had live to 3 switch to 2 and neutral to 1.

It's not mains powered...it's battery powered!

As PDQ says, live to 3 and 1 goes to the switched item ie the pump/boiler/heat source.

Ok, it's battery powered. :yesnod:

Now if i put an ohmeter across 3 and 2 and rotate the dial I get an on /off when the thermostat clicks.
If I put the ohmeter across 3 and 1 and rotate, I get nothing.

Have a look at page 15 on here: http://www.thermsaver.co.uk/media/pdf/controls/thermsave-celect-programmable-thermostat-guide.pdf

NO means Normally Open and is Number 1 on your diagram.

NC means Normally Closed and is number 2 in your diagram. Nothing is connected to this one.
