Well sorry to be the bearer etc Ben old lad, but thats a head off job etc imo. As said before, any trace of oil in coolant is the onset of grief. Looks like the sniff test is a bunch of buttock.
Commiserations.

It will be all right in the end. If it isn't all right yet, then it is not yet the end..

A straw to grasp at: i had similar dogsnot in the header tank
years back on a golf gti: turned out to be a leak on the oil cooler allowing oil into coolant. Dunno if the tf has any history of this problem? The coolant tank looked like yours......

It will be all right in the end. If it isn't all right yet, then it is not yet the end..

So here goes I've risked the three mile trip to the train station no overheating but heaters not on boiling point so that's a good thing. Lost a miniscule of coolant but put that down to not being bled properly . Had my odbc reader logging everything and the max temp I had was 78c and revs were old lan style under 3k.... Don't like risking it tomorrow though so will off road the TF until I'm rescued by a mechanical expert I think. Pics of Tue header tank to follow tonight when its cold.

I need this problem like the plague at the minute I've got loads on

Never mind I put it down to previous owners neglect

Right here's what I'm after peeps.

I'm going to send this link to a few of the mobile mechanics and see what prices I get if you can pass this onto any of your reccomended lot I'd reccomend it :hugs:

Head Gasket
MLS uprated triple layer gasket with shim
Cambelt
Waterpump
Inlet Manifold Gasket
Exhaust Manifold Gasket
Oil
Oil Filter
Coolant flush and refill with fresh O.A.T Antifreeze
Cam Oil Seals if needed
Head Bolts if needed
Lower Oil Rail - I might as well go the full hog if its getting done ? Opinions?

Next...

Stainless Coolant Pipes

Thats it for now. :broon:

Small niggles that I will probably sort myself are:
Need a lambda for [P0141] "02 Sensor Heater Circuit (Bank 1 Sensor 2) - I can sort this myself I think.
Xpower exhaust Install

:help:

The lower oil rail is just extra work and not something that is needed for the TF, most people don't bother with it. I know when David did his he didn't bother with the lower oil rail

Do you think I could be jumping the gun? Maybe it might have had HGF earlier / replaced and this is the remnants of the previous gunk going round the system. I will investigate tonight by lifting the inspection plate and taking photos...

Lets hope so.

if it were me, i would not be getting the MLS gasket, the OE part is better than any of the 3rd party ones...

get the Payern one... its the only one that has the correct sized dowels... all the other kits have smaller dowels which a prone to failure/movement, and a moving head gasket is a very bad thing.
