The short gear cable on the f has parted just when I should be taking full advantage of this brilliant weather: Bugger. It failed about a mile from home & by making the home run, it's now over the pit & I have the failed end in my hand; much the same picture as that from our man in Vancouver.
Obviously I've looked at the How To & absorbed those thoughts, however it is several years old, so there may be some new thinking on this & if not can I have you comments & if there are non, your commiseration.
Mike.

Lead awake last night praying for rain & inspiration, when it occurred to me to remove the broken inner, order the whole cable & try & refit the new inner before committing myself to the full renaissance bit & see how that goes. So early up & centre console out before Church & slackened the now popped off ball joint & remove. Then Church stuff & Bar-b-cue at my sons. Home & under the car; remove gearbox end & try to push cable back from in the cockpit end; no go; then try to draw it forward out through the car & it's out & on the bench, granted I had to cut it but hey ho, its not being used again. I'll post the next bit later in the week, or when ever the parts arrive.

Well it can't be done like that, one ends must be crimped on when the inner core is through the outer; I should have realised the inner bore wouldn't take the 6mm end slug. Parts ordered & we're in for the long haul.

And so a big job has broken out! Some of the bulkhead captive nuts are stripped & two of the hex securing screws have rusted into cylinders, plus I'm well past the stage when bending double in the pit didn't required serious consideration, so, I think I'll start the winter jobs now & take the engine out then I can stand up & do the job properly.
I was considering selling the TF a couple of months ago, thank goodness I didn't as there's a lot more summer to go at yet.
