Holy Crap! Seriously scary moment. was created by David Aiketgate
Posted 6 years 2 months ago #187705When I reversed into a parking space in town I heard a clunk. I thought I'd hit something so stopped and checked, nope nothing there, phew. Finished parking and had a quick look around the car for any obvious reason.
Nothing, so did a bit of shopping, back to the car and off home I go.
The car seemed ok in town but as I accelerated past 30, there was an almighty vibration and shuddering from the rear of the car! It felt like one of the wheels was shaped like a 50p piece.
I pulled over and checked underneath...
I'm pretty sure that shouldn't look like that!

That must have been terrifying! The inner bush on my TCA gave way a while ago and that was scary enough with rear wheel steering at quite low speeds. I hate to think what it must have felt like with no connection at all!!!

We will all be checking this out now.
But, well done, nobody hurt thank god!

I remember my rear wheel bearing going on the motorway, I was doing around 90, the car was snaking all over the place.

Posted 6 years 2 months ago #187719The really scary thought is that on the way into town I used the motorway and wasnt hanging around! If this had parted at speed I dread to think what would have happened.
I called the AA and the guy managed to get the shaft back in and followed me home at about 20 mph. Even at that speed the car was all over the place.
New track control arm ordered...

Posted 6 years 2 months ago #187765The thread from the adjuster bar had corroded and then been stripped, and left in the threads of the sleeve. That's why it looked as though the sleeve thread had disappeared.
Car is much better with all four wheels going in the same direction!

Glad it’s sorted, could have been a lot worse
