Engine temp light and rear fan staying on
Hi everyone, wondered if anyone else has experienced this? After 3 weeks in the garage, got the MGF out and the engine temp light on the dash remained on…. Also the rear fan is staying on? Could this be due to a faulty sensor, the engine clearly isn’t hot as it hasn’t been used in weeks, coolant level is fine, soI was wondering if the sensor is playing up.
The engine temp is fine, no over heating either.
Can anyone offer any remedies / suggestions on how to resolve this?
Any help greatly appreciated.

If you remove the lamp from the dash & cut the fan wires your problem will disappear.
Failing that have a look at the engine bay cooling sensor, it's above the coolant header tank. If you've been out of commission for a while crud could have built up causing high resistance & tricking the electronics to think its open circuit.
Unplug clean & plug back in, I've just recreated your symptoms & my cure has cleared the problem.[

Just had another look; it's a bead thermistor so resistance critical & the wire colours are pink/black & slate/white.

Many thanks for this advice...turns out that it was a faulty engine bay temp sensor...got a replacement for a tenner from Andrew Wardrobe's MG ebay shop and it has cured all faults
