You will need a obd reader such as Pscan to get the eka code. The cheap obd readers seen online wont provide the eka..
Having said that I have a reader that does provide the eka and allows you to change the code, but I've never managed to get the eka to work...:woowoo:

Judging by the picture of your instrument binnacle, your car is a Mk1 which will require either a T4 or Pscan. There are higher order analytical sets which will give you that & other information but as both Bruce & David have said the standard “£25 eBay offerings” won’t help at all.

I believe you are Birmingham way. There must be someone not too far away with a pscan. If they aren't on The-T-Bar, you could try asking on the Facebook 'MGF and TF Enthusiasts' group. A quick search there with the term "EKA code" reveals a load of helpful comments but none more helpful that I noticed than to check the car with a pscan.

Maybe your local, friendly MG Rover garage can check for you for a few beer tokens. Mine would!

I’ve just had a glance at Bruce’s post on another of your topics & he implies the f had a different connector for diagnostics, they two cars have the same fitting & there are similarities with the pin out but won’t understand each other. It’s a bit like a heavily accented Cornishman & an Australian trying to communicate in Latvian.

I am pleased to be corrected :-)

I think I was getting confused by the alternative connection available for connecting pscan to Minis and other older cars.

I think that I am right about OBD2 compliance, though. Or have I got that wrong as well? :-?

OBD2 was mandatory for all petrol cars from January 1st 2000, with 16-pin standard diagnostic connector.

Before that all cars from MG models which used mems 1.9 or 2J used exactly the same 16-pin diagnostic connector but with use of EOBD protocol, which covers all the rest MG F cars.

For EOBD cars additional pins were used to access some of ECUs.

3-pin connector was used for mems 1.6

Yes, later tf’s we’re OBD2 compliant & any competent reader should work, although there’s no substitute for our own favourite electronic interrogator.
