Been struggling with health problem lately ,so had to take it easy Finally got back more spraying on the car ,just the front bumper to do and the spraying is finished .As I`ve mentioned I bought the car ,as my last restoration and for something to do ,so no rush to finish till I`m happy with it .To add to the problems ,my PC developed yet another fault so it was time to replace it with a more modern one with Windows 10 As is usual nothing is a simple change over but now it seems all is settled and it`s nice to be back on line Len

Those of us who know what a test card (test pattern as it known here is Oz) are showing our age.

It was always displayed late at night just before they broadcast the ant races

The test card was for TV engineers It was used to set up things like beam convergence, colour saturation, barrel distortion & a host of other things.
We don’t have the test card any longer because there are no more TV engineers, once a set is built, it either works, in which case it’s sent from China to wherever it’s required, if it doesn’t, it’s scrapped. The demand for larger, more feature filled equipment means that your TV doesn’t go wrong, it gets lobbed long before failure.
It’s the same with so many things from the Far East.
Now that’s progress.

It might look like an ant race, which it could be, however it is thought to be background radiation left over from the Big Bang. Why it’s turned up on Australian TV is a mystery, maybe it’s little green men stranded in the red centre looking for Ramsey St.

No it shows my age ,for those younger members ,when the TV wasn`t broadcasting ,they showed a test card .This was a photo ,with various bars like barcodes ,to set the TV up .I was a TV engineer ,for some year so its something that sticks in your mind .Len

The BBC Test card.

I recall the girl in the photo came to life and talked in the excellent series, 'Life on Mars'

Life on Mars has to be amongst the best series ever shown on UK TV. Ashes to Ashes being a very close second.
