Intermittent Starting Issues with My MGF

Hello I am  facing  intermittent starting issues with my MGF. Sometimes the engine cranks but won't start;  and other times it starts without any problems.I have checked the battery and starter motor;  and they seem fine. Could it be an issue with the fuel pump /  ignition system? Has anyone faced  a similar problem;  and what was the solution? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Ross it could be worth using the search feature to check through related threads in first instance as there is some variety in the symptoms and causes of starting difficulties.

It would be worth running a flow test on the fuel pump to rule that out.
Change the fuel filter unless you know it has been changed in the last couple of years as they are often forgotten and they get clogged up over time.
Check for fault codes

As recommended above, I would looking at the fuel system as a good starting point.
Can you here the pump run when you turn the ignition key?

I’m a fan of a fuel system problem & would certainly look there.
Also is your f a “standard” or a VVC car. A VVC car would in all probability have the coil pack bolted to the back of the engine & can be problematic, distributor car can have any number of “standard” distributor problems.

And is yours a Mk1 or a Mk2 F ?
