TF160 VVC AIR INTAKE PIPES.
Any ideas as to why there are two pipes feeding air to the air filter box, could I just use one and feed it from the nearside engine air intake grid?
One is above the exhaust box so it would be taking in warm air, the other is just shoved down in the nearside area of the engine just below the air filter box.
So both would be taking in warm air of different degrees of temperature, warm air less oxygen.

This is why the Pipercross Viper cold air feed induction kit is a popular upgrade. Basically ripping out the standard filter box and pipework.
There is a How to in the list, but for a mk1 F, which is actually a much more complicated procedure than anything newer because of a resonator box that needs cut out...

As a result of this thread I just ordered a Piper cold air intake from Demon Tweeks reduced from £106 to £78 and in stock.

Although my car is a lowly 143 VVC & an early Mk1, I have the dual inlet air box fitted. I can’t remember whether it came with the black plastic “ram pipes” or if they came later but I extended both pipes & ran one to the near side air intake & the second to a point where a thermometer indicated the coolest place within the engine compartment.
As David intimated the old resonators box had to come out & it fell to the hacksaw & craft knife.
This has remained unchanged for many years & so I would be interested how you go on with this upgrade, not just the performance but also mechanically.

On my 97 F I just removed pipes from the resonator box (which I left in) then extended a new piece of pipe to the near side engine air intake grid direct to the filter box.

Hi so where was the indicated coolest place? My question was why were two pipes fitted originally, we all know that cool air contains more oxygen than warm that's why I don't understand why one pipe is directly over the exhaust box. So unless I get a more informed answer I think I will go ahead and just use one replacement pipe from the near side engine air intake grid to the air filter box the same as I done on my 97 F.

I ran the second pipe under the ECU up to where the rear bracing bars fix to the bulkhead/ boot firewall. This is the nearest point to the outside world via the cooling louvres. I managed to graft some aluminium ram pipes (now referred to as velocity stacks) on to the original plastic screw on base, they are no more effective, they are a lot prettier though.

One other aspect to this installation is the supplementary cooling fans I have fitted in the rear boot vent. This was inspired by Cobber, he has two large fans fitted behind these vents, this is to compensate for the ruggedly hot conditions over their summer. I had some fans about the workshop & at the request of another owner I built him a set using three. So pleased was he that I made a set for myself & found so little advantage, I never used them.
After a session like this I decided to reverse the middle one to draw air in & into the ducting.
Subsequently there hasn’t been an instance where I’ve been able to assess an alteration, either good or bad.
