Not had the 1999 MGF long, but the fault list………..
so moved steering wheel up, perfect.
but now I can move the steering wheel/column about an inch left
and right in a horizontal plane.
any ideas solutions wooden wedge???

I think you might need to check the steering column mounting bolts are tight. the shouldn't be any lateral play and only vertical movement should be what is allowed by adjustment, once locked in place it shouldn't flog about like a cock in a shirt sleeve either

Is yours an adjustable column? If so check both parts of the adjustment mechanism are fully secured, all bolts tight and report back on progress
