Hi Len,
yes you need to remove the wind deflector.
Undo the 2 plastic wing nuts and remove the bolts that locate the deflector then you will have access to the Allen bolts that fix the mounts to the car.

Sounds a good result with the flushing oil.

Are you planning on removing the hood frame from the car ?

You can probably gain enough access to the engine bay with out having to remove the whole roof, by first unlatching the roof from the windscreen. with out folding the roof back. This is to relive the tension then unclip the 5 or 6 (I can't remember which) over centre latches that secure the rear of the roof to the body, now lift the rear section of the roof up and forwards towards the windscreen. It wont stay up like that without some help, so use a bungee strap hooked between the front edge of the roof and the rear edge of the roof to hold it up out of the way.
That saves a shitload of buggerising about with the roof, and if your working outside it makes it easy to work on the car without having to worry too much about the weather changing 1/2 way through the job.

You'll probably still need to remove any accessories fitted back there such a rollover hoops or wind deflectors etc.

Ive removed the two blocks for the wind deflector .Now its a bit more free than it was ,but its really solid by the two clips the seat belt runs though   .Might it be those clips that need unscrewing

You will need to free the (6 IIRC) clips which hold the trim to the panel behind.  Some will probably break!
You should seem them in the p  icture below:

They are behind the top facia of the Tbar, they can be a bit of a swine to unclip as quite a lot of force is needed to get them to move, a lot of them will break! Just keep levering it and it will free up. Good luck.

The clips holding the Tbar on are similar to the things that hold door cards in place. Inevitably one or more will break. I bought a couple from 'Bitz the first time I removed mine - and ended up breaking one of them again the next time I removed it. It will still fit back perfectly ok though with one or two of those plastic clips missing, doesnt seem to need the full set

The clips, or where 4 should be, are now circled in red.

There is a trick to doing quotes with the new version of the forum software.
You need to first click the quote button then once the new window comes up, you need to start waving your cursor under the post you wish to quote.  If you get this bloody silly procedure right a dotted red line with a red box containing an arrow will appear. click on that little red box then proceed to type your reply to the quote.

It's a bloody stupid, poorly thought out "improvement" by the forum software supplier, not something that I think we can do anything about.

Thanks, Cobber, I will try that procedure next time I want to use Quote, but I suspect I will revert to high - lighting the piece of text I want to quote, then use cut & paste that text into a reply with "so-and-so said "pasted text" followed by my reply.

As ever, your explanation is clear & helpful, with proper illustrations which are invaluable.
