topping engine oil up
Ive found topping the engine up with oil ,from the filler cap in the boot its takes ages for the oil to drain down the pipe .Is it a sign that the pipe is blocked Len

No, just make sure that you've removed the dip stick.

You will notice that there are two oil filler caps, the one on the cam cover is for doing full oil changes, the one on the tube is so you can do top ups without needing to remove the engine cover.

Its best to take care not to spill any oil onto the top cover when filling oil into the main filler cap on the cam cover. The spilt oil finds its way around the edges of the plastic cover and over the coils and leads and into the spark plug wells where it can cause a misfire. Its an awkward position to pour a large can into so small amounts of spillage can be hard to avoid. Having made that mistake once I now cover the top of the cam cover with old plastic bags and rags to ensure the oil can't get in there if I slip whilst pouring it in.

A funnel can be handy, also decant the oil from its main container if its a 4/5 litre one into a jug or similar. Makes the job a lot easier.

Only changed the oil once so far but that's how I did it...funnel and plastic jug..much more manageable.
