not sure how to resync as i can't open or lock the door with the key

The remote unlocks the door, and alarms the car already not not sure that it needs a re-sync but if i can do it without having to unlock the door with the key I will- just not sure how

You don't need to unlock with the fob. Just start off with the door unlocked with the key and then press the lock button on the fob at least 4 times in quick succession. The alarm ECU should lock the door to indicate that the ECU and fob are now synchronised. The fob should then be able to unlock the car.

when I lock the doors manually, and alarm the car, I can still unlock the car remotely with the fob. When I press the lock button, the car arms the alarm, all of which suggests the fob is synchronised, as it does everything apart from lock the doors. It arms the alarm, disarms the alarm, unlocks the doors.

I think the problem is the ecu isn't sending power to the locking motors when I press the lock button. It WILL lock the doors remotely whn I reset the ecu by removing and replacing the fuse- then the fob locks the doors- so I don't think it's the fob thats the problem. I've tried pressing the lock button 4 times in succession, and all that happens is it arms the alrm on the first press.

Bloody pain it is!! New ECU methinks...

I can't understand why you are having a problem locking or unlocking the lock using the key?
Because, regardless of the alarm or the c/locking ECU, you should still be able to lock/unlock the door lock with the key.

The fact that you can't suggests there is a problem with the lock itself.

A couple of things just occurred, it sometimes takes up to 9-10 presses to get the fob re-synched.
Before you start, disconnect the horn, then at least it won't keep sounding.

The lock itself isnt a physical lock that locks or unlocks- it just sends a signal to the ecu as I understand it. new ecu is about £300 then another £100 for recoding and so on....at least we can lock the car manually and alrm it- so not too desperate for a solution- BBA-Reman will remanufacture any ecu and warrant it so will get them to quote I think

No, it actually is a physical lock, same as any modern car door lock. Even with the battery disconnected you should still be able to open the door lock with the key. :yesnod:

try putting graphite in the lock, you can get it from locksmiths (its like oiling the lock, but not oil, if you know what i mean)

Synchronising may work, as the synchronisation is intended to make sure that the fob and ECU are both expecting the same signal to work. When the fob is pressed it sends a code to the ECU. This code is not the same every time and if the battery is changed in the fob, or the fob buton is pressed several times while the fob is away from the car the codes can go out of synch. I know the unlocking still works from the fob, but the locking code could be out of synch (maybe) As it costs nothing to do you have nothing to lose. Just have the door unlocked and press the lock button several times quickly, until the car responds by locking and then try unlocking and locking using the fob.

have tried this and is doesnt work, however many times i press the lock button it doesnt work- I know the fob is synched because if I remove fuse no 5 and replace it, the car WILL lock with the remote, but it only does it the once, until I replace the fuse again.

When I press the lock button the rest of the time, the doors don't lock, but the alarm arms itself- I know this because the light goes out on the dash

It all points towards the BCU- however I understand BBA Reman repair these units so will send it away when wife doesnt need the car.

Thanks to all who've posted with suggestions- much appreciated
