I have a 1998 Caterham Superlight R fitted with the original K Series VHPD engine.
The car features a OBD2 interface (16 pin).
The engine is controlled via a MEMS 1.9 ECU.
I'm trying to find the appropriate diagnostic scanner for my car.
Can any members recommend or suggest an appropriate device ?

You've come to the right place..................Although it is an OBD2 plug socket it is OBD1 for MEMS 1.9
A PScan diagnostic reader should work for you.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

As Cobber says, the port is an OBD1 port and the www.pscan.uk is the diagnostic tool for the job. There are alternatives solutions but they are much more expensive and less user friendly.

Today, 9th December, I received, via DHL my Pscan. Upon unpacking all seemed fine, there was no physical damage evident. However, closer inspection revealed a rattle when I gently shook the device, the serial port on the back of the device was loose, is this normal ? I have not yet tried the device on my car. I live in Perth, Western Australia and unless absolutely necessary I don't want the hassle and expense of having to return the device to the UK. Any comments or advice would be welcomed.

The PCB was a loose fit in mine when it landed. There are tolerances in any low volume production items & a mil’ out in a board or box can cause this. If it works, as mine does, don’t worry.
I’m making a special enclosure for a circuit, it’s number three of a design. I started making it before the board arrived, which came earlier & it won’t fit; the board has grown. I’ll have to remake a couple of bits , which is a bugger. Three devices, two of which are exactly the same & one, which is functionally identical but larger.

A bit of a rattle is normal.
I make these in batches of one hundred at a time.
This makes it much harder to achieve the same tolerances as something like an iphone.
The design decision I made was that people would care more about how well it works for a reasonable price than that it feels nice like an mass produced item.
The cases are made from machined plastic sheet that's folded into shape, they aren't molded like products that are produced in the hundreds of thousands.
