Problem using notebook & windows10
This is a repeat post (as it was probably posted in the wrong section) . What am I doing wrong please?
Late last year I obtained "PSCAN" and using an old Dell Laptop (Windows XP) managed to get PSCAN to function and recode two key fobs.
At the end of the year I obtained a 2nd hand notebook with ms365 and windows 10.
64-bit operating system and x64-based processor.
I attempted to download pscan to this notebook for reasons of simplicity with the thought that it would be easier to transport for general use and for help with establishing any fault codes if away from home.
During the attempt to download pscan I believe I downloaded the exe files etc twice and deleted one set.
For practical reasons I was unable to get in the car for several weeks and working on it was out of the question.
I had the opportunity to use the car in the last few weeks and had one "scare" with one of the two sets of keys I have where one failed to open or lock the car. I therefore opted to fit a second new battery and fit a battery to a spare Lucas key fob using the Venturer notebook.
Attached is an image of what I could see on the screen. It had asked if I wished to update (which I declined as I wanted to do the job there and then and not delay).
As I could get no further as it suggested it was doing something but nothing was happening.
I disconnected the ventuter and connected the old Dell Laptop. That worked just as it had at the end of last year.

you get this error message if you run pscan when pscan is already running (so you are trying to run it twice).
This could happen if the first instance of pscan has crashed so that you can no longer interact with it, or it could happen if you minimised it or something
If you restart / reboot the laptop it will get rid of the already running one and then it should work when you run it.

Thank you for the response, and please accept my apologies for the delay in replying.
I will try your recommendation although I don’t think that will be the answer.
I have pscan on the note book and nothing else. I turned the note book on, opened the file identified as pscan and nothing else.
If trying again as suggested and the result is the same what would the next step be please?
Please note I attempted two downloads of pscan on this notebook and deleted one. Could there be a conflict between the two?

Good afternoon one and all. I have today had a short opportunity to re-try to connect pscan to the notebook. First I checked with the lap top and the connection was working. So I then connected the notebook.
This time I got further than before but I think there may be a mistake or an error on my part somewhere. When I "click" next etc it takes me to a page that invites me to register and offers the warnings regarding only two machines etc.
Now, I believe I used my desk-top machine to read up about Pscan but avoided registering with that machine. I must have registered the lap top as that works ok.
I thought I had registered the notebook too.
How can I tell if that is registered or not, and if I proceed to register it and that is either the second registration of that machine (remember I uninstalled the application when going through the installation process earlier in the year due to some confusion and uncertainty) or have registered the desktop by mistake is there anyway back?
Clearly registering the desktop in my case (where the desktop is upstairs) is not much use.
Here is an image of a screen dump showing what I see.
Any suggestions please?

If you are running pscan on the laptop that you actually intend to diagnose your car with, click on "yes".
Normally it will just work when you do that.

Ok, I can do that easily enough.
What I don’t want to do is click “yes” only to discover that the notebook is all ready registered as a consequence of my earlier failed attempt to download pscan.
Yes, it is my intention that the Notebook will be the primary device to use with pscan (the lap-top will be the back up tool should the notebook fail or become unusable).
If I click “yes” and discover it is the second registration of the notebook what is the way forward please?

If the notebook is already registered, then the software will not even ask you the question.
You will get full functionality without any questions.
pscan never registers a laptop without asking you first, it is always safe to just try it and see what happens.

Well some progress but still troubled. Please offer some guidance.
Plugged in the notebook and proceeded as suggested. Eventually it responded with a request to de register a PC of some form. That took a while to sort out whilst I identified the reference for the lap top (as the other number was nothing like my desktop machine number). Clicked on the unknown number to "remove it" and Pscan moved to the next screen. By this time I was back inside the house and obviously not connected to the car. So today I connected up Pscan expecting it to connect without any issue. Unfortunately we were back to the same screen requesting to de register one of the two machines. After re investigating the lap top to establish the number I wished to keep and checking that the other number was not the notebook number I again opted to de register the unknown number. Having done that Pscan moved on and I could start to check what it could show. It revealed the EK codes but as I did not need to re program the key fobs I opted to inspect something else. I chose the panel instrumentation. Pscan requested me to turn off the ignition and click next. After that turn the ignition back on and click next. Nothing was revealed so the sequence was repeated but again nothing revealed.
What should I see please and what am I doing wrong?

That's a different problem then.
What vehicle are you using pscan with?

Thank you for the reply. It is a MGTF 2003 March build date. TF135.
As far as I know it is not modified. There was an initial suggestion when I bought it that the ECU might have been “breathed on” but never confirmed or proven, and I think that if it had been I would have been told.
To confirm.
I initially hooked up my desktop pc (Windows 10 at the time I think but conversion to 11 occurred around that time) to the pscan to see how it might work not realising that it needed to be connected to the car to show anything.
Some time later I hooked up my old laptop (MS XP) and that was used to satisfactory re program a pair of key fobs and I could see a list of status checks for one aspect (can’t remember which - but nothing showed as not functioning - and I was unaware of any at the time and that status remains).
More recently I have tried to hook up the Venturer notebook that works on windows 10 (the notebook can’t accept windows 11).
When trying with the notebook initially I stumbled as posted above and particularly when it continued to want to discard a machine that I did not recognise. That happened twice and on the second occasion I tried to interrogate the ignition panel just to get familiar with the system. But it showed me nothing.
Any suggestions will be welcome.
The eventual wish is to use the notebook as it is smaller and transportable. The lap top is old and battery life is less certain. There is no wi-if in the garage. Mobile signal tends to nil.

pscan does not have the ability to talk to the instrument panel on an MGTF.
