Ahh I remember he old Lanz Bulldog tractors. A bloke in my old home town had one. They had a single large horizontal cylinder with an absurdly long stroke, very low revving. They would run on just about anything that was wet and would burn! As I recall there was quite a involved process to start these things. though not a bad as the Crossley 5cyl 2 stroke diesel engine in the good ship Cowie that I was engineer on, that ancient rust bucket, was a real pain in the arse to start. from cold, the ship didn't have a gear box so if you wanted reverse you had to stop the engine and start it again backwards. Always a worry that the damned thing would start again during docking procedures!
I just found this vid on the net about the starting procedure for a Lanz Bulldog: enjoy!

That’s when men, sorry, blokes were blokes & the bloody sheep learned to run like - - - - very early on.
I could have ploughed half an acre in my T20, which was built a few years after that Bulldog, in the time it took to get that going & all I had to do was turn the petrol on check the coolant give it a significant amount of choke, ignition on, hand throttle half way, stick over & up, then start work.
Mind you that would shift Tasmania, with that, a two furrow Fergy plough was a handy, without straining.
Thanks for the video, great stuff.

Yeah my old International Harvester B275 diesel tractor was a doddle to use compared to the Lanz Bulldog!
