I believe the 12 car rule applies to motor sports events with a competitive element, even a treasure hunt falls under this heading. IMHO, however, a leisure drive in convoy without a competitive element isn't subject to this limit. In fact I have been on runs with both the MGF Register and the Arden MG Club this year and there have been a lot more than 12 cars involved.

As Alan says, I believe it to be that if a competitive element is involved then permits etc are required. As a leisure run, there is not (or should not be!) such an element.

It will be all right in the end. If it isn't all right yet, then it is not yet the end..

All three didn't work but were opened up. Mate, you just jealous as mine would be a Dyson if it sucked. Pedestrians would go missing n that!

To be serious for a moment: silencers are designed to have a back pressure. By opening up the outlets, might you have affected the design performance?
And jealous? Erm, no.

I bet it took you longer to compose than it took me to read ;)

Unless anyone can think of something missing perhaps these should be adopted for all the T-Bar runs :yesnod:

It was actually Alan that got the job of writing them, after we had discussed it :broon:

A good set of rules. ;)

The issue of rules has never come up with The Border Patrol and long may it be that way.

One reason I started The Border Patrol is to create a group of friends who are adults and act in an adult way.

It always put me off motoring clubs the amount of rules and over organisation that went into runs, so the idea was to have a group that would get together with as little as possible.

Any rules that are made up are pretty much covered by the laws of the roads, which are the individuals responsibility, not the group. I wouldn't dream of checking peoples insurance etc, so there is no point in having that rule. As per generally making a nuisance of yourself on a run, I would probably have a word and if that didn't work then that person might find they don't make the list again.

For me it is about respecting the group, the general public and the individual.

The individual is expected to respect the group and we respect the individual. They have passed a test and make their own decisions.

I'm not decrying the idea of rules, that is the choice of the organiser, just saying that they won't be listed in any of my runs.

Actually I had hoped that we would not need to state any rules as to me they should be common sense. Unfortunately not everyone shared that common sense.

In my opinion, this comes down to the issue of 'common sense'.
In theory, everyone has it and behaves in an appropriate and adult manner.

I agree with Clive's sentiment about the Border Patrol. ie "a group of friends who are adults and act in an adult way" "For me it is about respecting the group, the general public and the individual." "The individual is expected to respect the group and we respect the individual."

However, in practice, 'common sense' is often sadly lacking among the population. So the restatement of what should be merely 'common sense', is necessary.

In terms of runs, meets etc. if someone gets pulled by the police or complained about by the public, it is a sensible precaution for the organiser to be able to point to the rules.
It is for this reason, rather than everyone standing in line at the beginning of an event having their insurance, MOT and driving licence checked by the organiser, that the rules are a good idea.

Look at the Border Patrol - September Saunter.

There are a fair number of people in the list of participants who have never attended a BP run before; people who, I suspect, no one has actually even met before.
We would hope and expect that these new people would behave appropriately, but without a written set of rules, who is to say that one or more of them may be totally irresponsible and do something to bring the good name of the group and the various forums(fora?) into disrepute? Then claim, 'no one said I couldn't do that.'

I'm not casting aspersions on anybody in the list, by the way, I'm just using that run as an example.

It will be my first Border Patrol run and I am more worried about keeping up with everyone as I am still driving like a baby on the 17's :(
I am hoping that Brian might be my co driver if he can, Allan is busy fixing engines for Andy :spank:
