Should the Police be able to fine you on the spot?

You ask if I would want to work nights. In my future new career, I will work nights, at times. I don't buy your logistics arguments, I'm afraid. Many supermarkets, for example, are out of towns and in retail parks. In future, build those parks close to railway stations or on access routes to those stations. Problem solved. You can also choose not to live next to a distribution centre, or even on the route of distribution, so that argument doesn't hold, either. As for what I do for a living, that is irrelevant to this discussion. As for paying higher prices, John, we already live in rip off Britain. Why should paying more higher prices bother us? We do sweet nothing about our existing rip off situation. There is nothing that we do that we could not do differently. It is all a matter of priorities, and will. And if it gets rid of the blight of lorries on our roads, almost anything would be well worth the changes.

Ain't it funny, how time slips away...?

By the way - this has strayed a little from the original topic...

Yes but your argument is spot on. I agree with everything you say about trucks. Back on topic, stay within the speed limit dont use your phone while driving and dont lane hog and you wont end up paying an on the spot fine. Sorted.

You're such an agitator Paul.

On the trucks thing. Everybody's got to make a living. Whether it's one truck or five trucks. There's no going back now I reckon. :pinch:

Yes, Leigh, everybody does have to make a living - but in the act of earning their living, no one should be allowed to hinder others from doing the same thing or using the tool of their trade to act selfishly on the road, with danger to other users. I just wonder how many people have died unnecessarily in accidents after speeding past a selfish lorry driver for miles, and then getting into an accident they would otherwise never have been involved in? But that is OK, apparently because drivers other than lorry drivers have "an attitude"... :bang:

But might help one understand what forms your opinions.

What forms my opinion is thirty plus years of driving, and experiencing, on a daily basis, what I have written about. FWIW, for much of the last 26 years my average mileage has been between 36000 and 50000 miles per annum.

I know the internet is the place to let go with ill founded and completely unsubstantiated opinions, but I think we have found a master here.
Still, we should be thankful that these paragons of excellent driving and manners can take time out from their busy schedule to educate us.
Those paperclips won't sell themselves, now will they?

Just a gentle reminder that this thread is about the Police issuing 'on the spot' fines.
Feel free to have a robust discussion about other things in the asylum.

Discussion over from my side. It was quite civil and reasonable until Supercover (whoever he/she) may be, decided to exercise his rights as a cyber warrior. I just hope that my efforts made a difference in saving one of his/her relative's lives, at some stage in the last twenty odd years. Paper clips? Grow up!
